Neil Armstrong:

Neil Armstrong is one of the most well-known patriots of all time. Neil Armstrong was an American astronaut and was the first man to ever land on the moon.

Before he became an astronaut he served in the U.S Navy and fought in the Korean war; after graduating from college Armstrong chose to become an expirimental test pilot and he began working at Lewis Field in 1955. His first flight in a rocket was in 1957 in a rocket called Bell-X 1B; Armstrong continued as a test pilot for several more years.

Armstrong then joined the Gemini program and was announced as the Command Pilot with David Scott as Pilot. Due to faulty wiring in the Gemini it crashed and was recovered in the Pacific ocean so a second attempt was made in the Gemini 11 September 11,1966.

In March 1969 it was determined that Armstrong would be the first person to land on the moon. The Apollo 11 was not supposed to land in a specific spot but was only supposed to land safely on the moon so when Armstrong noticed that several passing asteroids came by several seconds too early armstrong realized that the landing would be off by several miles compared to the original calculations as the Eagle's radar acquired the surface, several alarms sounded that neither Armstrong nor his co-pilot, Buzz Aldrin, recognized. Because of these issues Armstrong was forced to land the ship himself, because of the two second time difference making a several mile difference the ship was also low on fuel so Armstrong would land the ship with only seconds of fuel left. Armstrong successfully landed the ship and spoke his first words to Mission Control "Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed." Armstrong then descended down the ladder first and spoke the famous words "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." Twenty minutes after the first step Aldrin joined Armstrong on the moon.

Years after armstrong returned home he married his first wife, Janet Shearon, and had two children, after thirty eight years they were divorced. Several years later he married his second wife, Carol Held Knight, who he stayed with until he died. Armstrong died on August 25, 2012 due to complications during a surgery to relieve blocked coronary arteries.
