Kalpana Chawla-

Kalpana Chawla was an American- Indian astronaut. She was a mission specialist on the space shuttle, Columbia. Chawla first flew on the air craft in 1997 as mission specialist and primary robotic arm operator. Sadly, Kalpana Chawla did not get to complete her next mission. On Feburary 1, 2003, the Columbia crashed. a piece of foam insulation broke off from the Space Shuttle external tank. All seven people inside the craft were killed in this disaster. Chawla was the first Indian and the first American- Indian in space. She was born in Karnal, India and moved to the USA in 1982 and began working at NASA in 1988. She is such an inspiration to everyone trying to achieve their goals.
